Using a standard power drill, I drilled 4 holes into the sides of the aluminum channel and then right into the sides of the Applaro panel. I used a wider drill bit to rout out a niche for the head of the screw so it would be flush with the aluminum channel. Then I attached the panels to the back of the Applaro bench using 4 screws on each side.

The bench was designed to hold gardening tools, but with a few simple changes it makes a perfect cat hangout. You only need a few things to complete this project. 1) an ÄPPLARÖ bench from Ikea, 2) a piece of thin board (we used masonite, you could also use plywood), and 3) a yoga mat or some other covering like a piece of sisal or a carpet.

Two aluminum 96 inch, 3/4 in width C Channels from Home Depot. Cut to length with a hacksaw for the sides and top piece. Some wood screws to keep the aluminum in place. I drilled through the aluminum and made pilot holes in the wood up and down the length of the aluminum. All the screws are in the back which creates a clean look on the front.

The main issue is that the wall panel is two pieces. There isn't a brace to hold them together since they are supposed to mount to a wall.
